About Blue Horizon Aviation

A family-run academy on the Grand Strand.

Blue Horizon Aviation is a family-owned, FAA Part 61 flight school operating out of Grand Strand Airport in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

We built the school around a simple idea: a private pilot’s license opens a world of freedom. Travel on your own terms, skip the security lines, fly direct to the places the airlines don’t serve, and see the coast the way only pilots do.

That shows up in how we teach. We are the only CSIP-certified Cirrus instruction in the Myrtle Beach area, which means standardized, professional training on the SR-series platform rather than whatever each instructor happens to prefer. Our simulator handles the weather and the emergency scenarios, so the hours you buy in the airplane are spent making progress.

The fleet is seven aircraft — a Cirrus SR22 G6, three Cirrus SR20s, and three IFR-certified Cessna 172s — and we are open seven days a week. There is a complete path here, from a first Discovery Flight through Private, Instrument, Commercial, CFI and CFII.

“Aviation with excellence, care and purpose.”

Why train here

  • The newest Cirrus SR-series aircraft

Four Cirrus SR-series airplanes — every one of them fitted with CAPS, the whole-airframe parachute system — alongside three well-maintained, IFR-certified Cessna 172s.

  • Learning, not renting

Every flight is planned to move you forward. Our simulator takes the expensive weather and emergency work out of the airplane, so the hours you pay for in the air are the ones that count.

  • Elite Cirrus instruction

The only CSIP-certified Cirrus instruction in the Myrtle Beach area — standardized, professional, and safe from your first lesson to your checkride.

  • Family owned and operated

You are not a number here. We are open seven days a week at Grand Strand Airport, which means less time waiting on the ramp and more time actually flying.

First light

The smoothest air of the day is at dawn.

Calm, stable, and empty of traffic. It is why the first lesson on the schedule is so often the one students remember.

Tools that match the standard

Seven aircraft, and the newest Cirrus SR-series fleet.

Two panels, two airframe families and a simulator make a more adaptable pilot than a single airplane ever could. You learn to fly instruments rather than to memorize one screen — which is exactly what an examiner, and later an employer, is looking for.
